Turning to Stone was painted on a 4' x 5' stretched canvas.
It was gesso'd and a base coat of yellow ochre was applied to the entire surface.

The snakes were painted from the background forward. The scales and marble border are painted with a paintbrush, then an airbrush is used to apply the shadows. All the snakes are completed before painting the face.

A transparent green is sprayed on the snakes with an airbrush, radiating from the middle outward. Then the face and hands are painted using white, green and black.
