Pamelina H.created this artwork for Sturgis Bike Week apparel. The art director wanted a vintage pin-up style woman with modern-day tattooing. He wanted the artwork to look like a vintage nearly monochromatic photo.
The color tones were added by airbrushing a transparent mixture of raw sienna and burnt umber.

The artwork was enlarged to 13" x 24" and printed in 8x10 sections, then transfered to illustration board by applying graphite to the back of the paper. The illustration was drawn on cold press using graphite and Prismacolor pencils.

Step 2
Workable fixative was applied to the drawing so work could be done on the tattoo artwork while preserving the work already done.
Tracing paper was placed over the artwork. The tattoo work was designed on the tracing paper, then transferred to the illustration board. The tattoos were drawn using graphite.
Workable fixtive was applied again to protect it before applying frisket paper for the airbrushing step.
The skin tones were airbrushed with gray, giving a softer overall look.
